Project Overview
Bridget came to Kitchen Kit with a clear goal: to open up her enclosed kitchen layout. She also wanted a sociable space that flowed easily into the living area. Previously, a partition window had separated the kitchen from the next room. However, structural walls needed to stay in place, so we designed around them. As a result, we created an open-plan layout that feels calm, practical, and easy to navigate. Now, tailored storage and efficient planning support how Bridget uses the space every day.
Smart Kitchen Design Challenges and Creative Solutions in a Modern Nobilia Renovation
From the start, a fixed structural wall shaped the smart kitchen design. Instead of seeing it as a limitation, we used it to anchor a peninsula. As a result, the peninsula zones the kitchen without closing off the space. On one side, it offers open shelving and seating that flow into the living area. Next, we removed the partition window and introduced a larder bank to boost storage and flow. Similarly, we designed a compact utility area with raised appliances and thoughtful layout choices. Altogether, the space delivers a truly smart kitchen design, functional, sociable, and full of character.

How to Select Furniture and Style Details for a Sleek Nobilia Kitchen
This kitchen features Nobilia Easytouch cabinets in Alpine White with a matt, fingerprint-resistant finish. The soft white surface boosts natural light and creates a modern, smart kitchen feel. The cabinets are fully handleless, offering a seamless and uncluttered look. Open shelf racking with integrated lighting adds warmth and interest. The result is a minimalist design that still feels welcoming and full of character.
Best Worktops and Surface Finishes for a Smart Kitchen Design
To complement the white cabinetry, we used Fistral laminate worktops from Duke Stone in Cornwall. Inspired by the Cornish coastline, the Fistral surface brings subtle texture and a natural feel to the space. The finish creates a calming, beach-toned backdrop that softens the clean lines of the cabinetry. Choosing a local supplier also added meaning for the client and rooted the design in a sense of place.

Top Appliance and Tech Features to Integrate in a Nobilia Kitchen
While many of the appliances were retained from the original kitchen, we guided Bridget in upgrading key elements to maximise space and functionality.
• We advised switching from an American-style fridge freezer to a Bosch tall fridge and freezer, improving storage access and visual balance.
• A new wine cooler was added, along with Blanco sinks and a Quooker boiling water tap.
• All appliances were carefully integrated around the existing layout to preserve both form and function.
Smart Kitchen Design Layout Ideas for a Functional Modern Nobilia Design
• Tall Storage Wall: A dedicated larder bank provides generous storage without overwhelming the space.
• Multifunctional Peninsula: Wraps around the structural wall to define zones, add open display shelving, and offer casual seating.
• Utility Zone: The washer and dryer are raised to eye level for ease of use, while a special area was designed for the client’s cat—an example of custom practicality.
• Lighting: Under-counter and shelf lighting bring warmth and highlight key textures, especially in the shelving units.

The Outcome
This smart kitchen design blends clean, modern styling with thoughtful personal touches. It offers a calm, open-plan layout that works with the room’s original structure. Integrated storage, soft textures, and clever planning make the space practical and elegant. Bridget now enjoys a kitchen that feels brighter, more spacious, and tailored to her daily routine.
Kind Words From Our Customer
“The service we received from Jake at Kitchen Kit Exeter from start to finish has been superb. We were very impressed at his design—it was something we hadn’t thought about and it has completely transformed and opened up our space. Jake couldn’t have been more professional. He was always contactable, kept us informed, responded quickly, and worked hard to find solutions as issues arose.
Steve our fitter was also professional, respectful, and tidy. For a premium quality kitchen, it actually wasn’t a lot more expensive than from the big kitchen retailer, and you get what you pay for.”
